Pacenti SL 23

It’s not as radical as their new PDent bar and stem system, but Pacenti just dropped some updates on their SL23 rim. The outside of the rim has been widened by 0.5mm, but the internal width is over 2mm wider making it effectively a wider design. The bead hooks also sit lower for a tubeless friendly rim profile that will seal up with tubeless tape. Available in 20, 24, 28, and 32h versions in 700c, weights are listed at 430g. The rims use a welded joint, bead blasted finish, and a thicker spoke bed for more durability at the nipple junction. Still built from 6061-T6 aluminum, rims will sell for $109 and are available now.

Great rims made even better. Pacenti and HED rims are my current favorites but I wonder what is happening with HED with Steve’s very unfortunate and early passing.

And to think I had just ordered a pre-update rim and had it built…dangit

When they say “XC,” do they mean cross country mountain biking?

Looks just like the StansNoTubes new Grail road rim

It doesn’t look like a Grail at all. The SL23 bears more resemblance to an Alpha, but even then the resemblance is no more than that of any modern 26-ish mm deep aeroish wheel.

I’m glad they made these changes.

1. It’s insanely hard to change tires on my SL23 v1’s. I need to use a bead jack and even with the bead jack it’s hard to get a tire on. I can only change a tire at home with the v1!

2. The finish on the v1’s looks cheap. It looks like glossy paint, though it’s claimed to be anodizing.

p.s. No review warned me about the negatives of the v1. What good is a bike rim that tires can’t be changed on while on the side of the road? I do feel ripped off.

Velociraptor, mount some hutchinson tubeless tires and use stans. I bet you never get a flat in first the place. These new pacenti rims look good to me, i train with alphas and they’re rather narrow.

Pacenti apparently builds to the plus end of production tolerances, thus resulting in tight tire fits. That’s no different than Campy. It’s nothing that should make anyone feel “ripped off”. It is something, however, that should encourage someone to try a different set of tires, a set that mounts more easily.

I don’t remember Campy wheel users feeling ripped off because they had a hell of time fitting Michelin tires on their rims.

Campag rims are a PITA to.mount tyres on – I’d never buy them, and used to curse people who brought them into the shop. Saying Pacenti are similar re tyre fit puts me off the latter…

For fitting any tyre on a Pacenti SL23 (or SL25) rim, I’ve had a lot of success using Zefal Z levers. Use all three of the levers for a swearing-less tyre fitting / removing experience.

Very responsive and comfortable.Easy to instal Specialized Turbo Pro 25c,no tool need. Fast and smooth roiling Its on Roubaix SL 4 with full Ultegra..

Glad they redesigned the rim. Earlier version cracked at the spoke, and was very difficult to remove tire
