Pakmule has set out to simplify bike and gear transport for your weekend adventures with the new Pakmule Bike Rack. The platform-based hitch rack allows you to carry up to three bikes as well as a whole load of gear at the same time. The platform design means you can use it to haul bikes this weekend, and camping gear the next without the need for any major modifications in between.

The Pakmule Bike Rack comes with three fork mounts that clamp to the rails of the rack; two short ones and one taller one, allowing you to haul up three bikes in an anti-parallel arrangement, with the taller fork mount ensuring that handlebars don’t interfere with one another.

The fork mounts are available with a wide variety of inserts, giving you the option to carry mountain bikes, gravel bikes, kid’s bike or road bikes securely. Buckle straps further secure the bike to the rack via the wheels.

this would be a home run if it included front wheel storage or an option to mount the bike with the front wheel on. but putting your front wheel inside the vehicle is a sub-par solution.

I see the potential to somewhat easily strap the front wheel within the rack in a way that keeps things secure and minimizes the rubbing but I also understand the desire to have an out-of-the-box solution. In line with what you’re saying, something that mounts behind the fork, parallel with the car/perpendicular to the frame looks like it would fit well and still allow extras like the cooler shown in the picture. The appeal to me is definitely the versatility so I bet that the tubular “ladder” construction of the base would allow easier adaptation without modification compared to some of the roof style baskets or budget-friendly hitch baskets.

Definitely personal preference and I still long for the days of fork mount hitch racks. Never had an issue with putting the wheels in the back of the station wagon. I really like the idea of this. Now, if only Europe didn’t hate 2″ receiver setups.

I had this very thing years ago. I used a hitch basket that I bought at Walmart(I think), mounted some fork mounts and was ready to go, maybe $200 at the most. I even re-cycled it was I was done with it..I gave it to a friend.

It seems like the space saved by moving the cooler to the rack is negated by wheels having to go inside.
Also, over $1200? I’m sure it’s quality (minus the wheel strap), but you can put your own together for 1/3 the cost.
