Pirelli has announced a new race-specific gravel tire named the Cinturato Gravel RC. Featuring a burlier tread pattern inspired by the Scorpion XC RC tires, the new Gravel RC is designed for speed in compact and straight sections, and maximum grip when cornering at the speeds seen in modern gravel racing. It switches to a 60 TPI fabric for improved puncture protection with bead-to-bead TechWall reinforcement for cut prevention and race-day reliability.
Pirelli Cinturato Gravel RC
Pirelli’s latest offering for the Gravel segment is a race-day special. The Cinturato Gravel RC is aimed squarely at the demands of Gravel Racing at the top level of the sport, with a taller tread pattern called in for improved grip everywhere. More aggressive than the tread patterns seen on the Cinturato Gravel M and H tires, this one takes design cues from the Scorpion XC RC tire; the layout looks to be very much the same, only appropriately downsized to fit on these 35mm, 40mm and 45mm options.
A Chevron-shaped center tread gives way to three staggered and reinforced intermediary transition knobs, which then give way to tall side knobs featuring siping in the direction of travel. The tread is made up of Pirelli’s SpeedGRIP compound, said to have a durability comparable to that of the MTB SmartGRIP compound.
While the Cinturato Gravel M and H tires boast a supple 120 TPI fabric casing, the new Gravel RC race-day tire gets a more robust 60 TPI Nylon casing with more rubber in a bid to improve puncture protection. It too gets the TechWALL protection but in this case, it runs from bead-to-bead for extra reinforcement and reliability. Pirelli say this doesn’t impair the tire’s rolling resistance or rideability.
