As of this month, tire titan Pirelli started production of the P Zero Race bike tires from its new plant in Bollate, Italy, near Pirelli HQ. According to Pirelli, this is “the only factory to make industrial scale, ‘Made in Italy’ bike tires.” First opened in 1962, the factory has recently undergone a modernization process to allow for production of Pirelli’s top of the line tires – including bicycle tires. The opening of the revitalized factory also coincides with Pirelli’s 150th anniversary. While the factory is already producing some tires, the complete project isn’t expected to be complete until early 2023.

Pirelli goes velo with P Zero Race tires
According to the Pirelli press office, the Bollate factory boasts cutting-edge process automation and draws from Pirelli’s vast experience developing ultra-high-performance car tires. That technology produces each tire with “extreme geometrical precision,” which is an even more important factor when it comes to a bike tire, given its small size and light weight.
The P Zero Race tire has already landed Pirelli contracts with athletes from UCI teams like Trek-Segafredo, AG2R Citroën, and MTB teams Wilier Triestina-Pirelli and Canyon CLLCTV-Pirelli. And they supply the Tour de France winning UAE Team Emirates.
