On a list of things I would do after breaking my hip; finishing three additional stages in a downhill race doesn’t rank too high. That’s what “Rad Ross” Schnell the All Mountain world champion mountain bike racer did. Schnell was competing in the 10 stage French Enduro Mountain Bike Cup in Metabief, France.
Near the end of the 4th stage, after having navigated the seemingly trecherous section of the course, he wiped out in some wet grass at 30 MPH. Pumped full of adrenaline he jumped back on his bike and finished 4th on the stage. After finishing three more races he thought “something’s wrong” and after finding a small hospital and getting X-rays, it was clear he had broken the greater trochanter area of his left femur.ÂÂ
