A few recall notices have popped up in our inbox this week for a couple of city e-bikes that each have a quick & easy fix, and a run of recent 29er trail/enduro forks whose lowers could break. The Trek Super Commuter+ 8S model needs to get a simple fender attachment bolt replaced, the Faraday e-bikes need a new seatpost, and the limited run of 2019 RockShox Lyrik & Yari forks need to have their lowers replaced.
Trek issues voluntary recall for Super Commuter+ 8S e-bikes
“Trek Bicycle has announced a voluntary recall of its Super Commuter+ 8S electric bike. The affected model years are 2017, 2018 & 2019. This action is in response to the discovery that some bikes were assembled with the incorrect bolt to hold the front fender to the fork crown. If the incorrect bolt is used, it can come loose, causing the fender to stop the front wheel unexpectedly.
As part of this voluntary action, Trek is asking its retailers to inspect affected bikes and replace incorrect bolts. Inspection and replacement will be a fast process. All customers who bring in their Super Commuter+ 8S for inspection will be given a $100 in-store credit. Retailers are ready to service affected bikes today. The in-store credit is valid through December 31, 2019.”

Faraday recalls Porteur, Porteur S, Cortland & Cortland S e-bikes
Faraday announced a voluntary recall of alloy seatposts for a number of models together with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
“The four models included in the recall are the Porteur, Porteur S, Cortland, and Cortland S e-bikes sold between March 2015 and April 2019. The originally installed seat post, engraved with either “HL” or “Zoom,” can break and pose a fall hazard to the rider. We are committed to the safety of all of our customers and are providing a free seat post replacement and free installation at a specialty bicycle retailer for all recalled seat posts, at no charge. Please do not attempt to replace the seat post yourself. Customers should immediately stop using their bicycle.”

SRAM recalls limited run of 29″ RockShox Lyrik & Yari forks
“SRAM, in conjunction with government agencies globally, is conducting a recall on specific 29 inch wheel RockShox Lyrik and Yari Boost forks produced in early 2019. SRAM is requesting forks in consumer use and in dealer stock be inspected for involved serial
numbers and casting codes.”
The CPSC says that lower leg assembly on this limited run of forks “can break and cause the rider to lose control, posing crash and injury hazards.”
