Rocky Mountain has gone to great lengths to create what they feel is the best e-MTB platform. But even with the most efficient motor, and largest integrated battery, long rides have a tendency to leave you wanting for more juice. For those days, reach for the new Overtimepack.
What is the Overtimepack? Think of it as an external gas tank that will provide extra riding distance in addition to your current range. The small-ish pack contains 330 Wh in the form of Samsung’s 18650 cells, and the pack weighs in at 1975g plus 47g for the mounting hardware. Combine it with the 672Wh Powerplay battery, and you get an e-bike with more than 1000Wh!
The Overtimepack mounts to multiple Rocky Mountain e-MTB frames just under the shock for a low center of gravity. The Overtimepack attaches with tools for a rattle free mounting that also keeps the expensive component from being easily swiped from the bike. The pack is also water resistant and can be used in wet and muddy conditions.
While it has a relief for certain shock reservoirs, the Overtimepack is not compatible with the Instinct Powerplay BC Edition as OEM spec’d reservoir shocks will interfere with the battery pack. However, if you have one of these bikes and really want the Overtimepack, you should be able to switch out the shock to an inline version to make it work.
The Overtimepack works in two ways – either as a primary battery source, or a charger for the main battery. When used as the primary source (and with the main battery fully charged), the Overtimepack will drain first. Once depleted, the bike will automatically start to drain the main battery instead. The words ‘Ride More Faster Further’ on the battery pack actually light up and serve as the battery indicator with the green illumination gradually fading away as the battery dies.
The other option is to plug in your Overtimepack on a Powerplay bike that the battery is already drained. In this scenario, the Overtime pack will begin to charge the Powerplay battery giving the 672Wh battery roughly 50% charge after two hours. However, to fully charge the 672Wh Powerplay battery, you’ll need 2.5 Overtimepacks.
The Overtimepack charges with the standard Powerplay 5A charger which gets it to 80% charge in just over an hour, and fully charged in just over two hours.
Available now, the Overtimepack is priced at $649.
