The next generation of Rotwild’s popular R.EX all-mountain / enduro ebike gets a big power upgrade, keeping the proven mid-high-pivot 150mm travel carbon frame, but swapping to the very desirable DJI Avinox powertrain. Plus, at the same time it keeps Rotwild’s own custom carbon-case 864Wh battery, giving this the longest stock range of any DJI-powered ebike we’ve seen.
2025 Rotwild R.EX x DJI Avinox carbon enduro eMTB

This hi-mod carbon frame with 150mm of mid-high-pivot 4 bar suspension paired to 160mm forks and the light & power-dense DJI Avinox motor, makes this one of the lightest full-power eMTBs we’ve laid eyes on. The elevated chainstay/swingarm design of the frame itself makes for a unique look – and one that maybe not everyone will love. But having ridden previous generations, Rotwild have clearly dialed in a capable ebike whether you plan to ride it hard as an all-mountain eMTB or you lean more towards e-enduro.
Of course, the big news here is really two-fold – the move to the DJI motor and Rotwild’s own battery that offers more energy storage than the standard DJI internal battery at an even lighter weight…
Powered by DJI Avinox & a lighter, more energy-packed Rotwild battery

The DJI Avinox motor is an undeniable powerhouse. This is an ebike motor that perfectly combines immense power with excellent control systems. It cranks out as much or more torque than any other full-power ebike powertrain. Yet it feels smooth and manageable, thanks to 10 great sensors & motor controllers. It features a smart Auto mode to extend your range without really sacrificing top-end power, has an on-demand short-term Boost power mode at the press of a button, includes plenty of user customization options in its connected app, and even continues to get free over-the-air upgrades.
For example, the most recent firmware and app update give users the option to access the full Boost level 1000W peak power in its Auto, Trail & Turbo modes. You can now also customize how long the peak 120Nm Boost assist lasts, from 10-60 seconds. Or you can even activate a quicker start mode to match your pedal input from a start faster than ever. Plus, if you have a bike with a SRAM X0 AXS Transmission, you can now sync the motor & derailleur to shift when you are coasting and deliver smoother shifts all-around.

The battery is especially interesting, because the carbon shell Rotwild IPU 900 battery is lighter and packs in more energy than the standard DJI Avinox battery. The Rotwild battery stores 864Wh of power at a claimed 3.58kg weight, an 8% boost over the standard 800Wh Avinox internal battery that is 160g heavier. More power, less weight, what more could you ask for!
DJI-powered is now Avinox-powered

One extra DJI Avinox fact. This most recent update from DJI also moves to separate the ebike powertrain systems from their camera & drones. The ebikes now have their own website, only with Avinox naming and no DJU mention. And as a rolling update, the next ebike motors, displays & batteries that you see will likely only say Avinox, with no more DJI branding.
That seems like a strange move. Avinox is so new to the eMTB segment that it seems odd to break away from the DJI brand that we cyclists know so well. But the Avinox ebike powertrain system has performed so well, and seen so much more brand adoption this year, that DJI probably won’t have any trouble selling ebike motors under any name at this point.
How will it ride?

I rode the first generation of the R.EX when it was powered by a TQ motor back in 2023, and it was fun but kinda asking for more power. Then, earlier this year I test rode the previous generation R.EX that was still powered by a Shimano EP8 motor, a 820Wh battery, and weighing just over 22kg with XT Di2. Now, with the extra power and smooth delivery of the DJI motor, a bigger battery, and lighter weight… this sounds like a win. And I would love to ride this new version!
