New Cycling Gear

Shimano EX3 Cycling Shoes — Men’s: $120

Shimano’s EX3 Cycling Shoes have mesh uppers for airflow, a city-touring outsole, and SPD cleat placement in the midfoot for comfort during more casual rides.

Shimano designed these with walking in mind, too. There’s a wider forefoot to reduce cleat chattering and the EX midsoles have an EVA foam to absorb impacts while riding and cushion while walking.

Wild Rye Ramsey Mountain Bike Shorts — Women’s: $57

Designed for women, the Wild Rye Ramsey has a 12-inch inseam to fit long and provide coverage. You’ll also get protection from the sun, thanks to the UPF 50 shield fabric. The shorts are light and breathable and have a simple zippered pocket.

Patagonia Dirt Craft Bike Shorts 2.0 — Men’s: $199

The Dirt Craft 2.0 updates Patagonia’s bike shorts with more eco-friendly fabrics, including stretchy nylon and polyester sourced from fishing nets and ocean plastics. The removable padded liner has contoured chamois and mesh panels to help with airflow and employs a few technologies to reduce odors and aid wicking.

They fit low enough to touch kneepads and have an external waist adjustment to dial the fit as you ride. There are two front pockets and two secure-zip thigh pockets.

Bontrager Dual Charger Floor Pump: $75

A dual-purpose pump that can inflate tires with Presta and Schrader valves. The Bontrager Dual Charger floor pump has a 4-inch base with three legs to prevent wobbling while pumping. Its gauge is mounted to the base as is the lever to switch between high-volume and high-pressure settings.

Smith Engage 2 MIPS & Persist 2 MIPS Bike Helmet: $130

The Smith Engage 2 MIPS bike helmet is updated with high-absorption Zonal Koroyd materials to add to its MIPS energy-dissipating impact protection. It’s also ventilated, with a dial-adjust fit, and lined with a single layer of webbing. It has 20 fixed vents for airflow and a two-position visor that rotates to stow eyewear.

The Smith Persist 2 MIPS bike helmet is also updated to Zonal Koroyd materials and has a dial-adjustable fit. Smith also extended the helmet’s back coverage for a better, locked-in feel on your head. The Persist has 21 fixed vents and fits Smith eyewear in two of them.

Garmin Varia Radar Tail Light: $200

Big lighting in a slim package, the Varia RTL515 is also your lookout and can send alerts to a companion device so you know when vehicles are coming up behind you. The light pairs with the Garmin Edge bike computer and radar display unit, as well as compatible wearables.

The Varia provides visibility up to 1 mile and can run in peloton mode, with intensity flashes. Battery life can last up to 16 hours in day flash mode and up to six hours in solid mode

Thule Epos 2-Bike Hitch Rack: $1,000

Made to fit all kinds of bikes, the Thule Epos 2-bike hitch rack uses a telescopic bike attachment system with pivoting cradles and reinforced straps to hold any part of a frame or wheel.

It has a load capacity of 75 lbs. per bike and a total of 140 lbs. There’s 9.8 inches of room between bike trays to reduce bike-on-bike bangs, and ratcheting buckles and straps to fasten in tires up to 3.2 inches wide.

The rack itself is fully foldable for convenient installation and storage. When mounted, you should still be able to access your trunk thanks to its outboard pedal tilt.

Hiplok D1000 Bike Lock: $300

Designed to thwart thieves equipped with an angle grinder, the Hiplok D1000 bike lock is a security solution for high-risk areas. It has an integrated shackle and body design with an anti-rotation, double-locking function to make it harder to even get cutting tools in place.

The steel shackle is 20 mm thick with a rubberized coating and comes with three coded, replaceable keys. The area within the shackle is 15.5 cm by 9.2 cm.
