Premium bike travel bag maker Scicon gave its flagship soft-sided mountain bike bag the AeroComfort MTB a total redesign to better fit bigger, wider trail bikes. More than simply adding extra room to fit plus-sized wheels & tires, the new bike travel bag completely rethinks its layout, not with a lopped design & two fold-down sides.
2019 Scicon AeroComfort MTB bike travel bag
Developed and tested together with BMC’s & Trek’s pro mountain bike racing teams last season, the completely redesigned travel bag was developed for modern geometry mountain bikes with wider tires.
The new design is optimized for long, low & slack mountain bikes, with plus-size trail & enduro bikes especially in mind; and big tires. The new bag includes larger internal padded wheel pockets for plus tires up to any 27.5+ or even 29″ x 3.5″ tires (apparently, if you let air out of them, but hopefully not enough to leak sealant!)
While the new AeroComfort MTB Bike Bag layout now features a continuous padded central loop with openable side panels, it still retains Scicon’s proven internal ‘frame defender structure’ and QR or thru-axle compatibility. With its rigid base panel and adjustable wheelbase (up to 1250mm), the bag promises a stable connection for your trail bike and maximum protection at the dropouts and drivetrain.
AeroComfort MTB Plus tech details
The new bag keeps the same general packing & highly padded protection strategy, with additional internal frame & contact point pads that are cinched & strapped securely into place. Packing requires a bit more disassembly. Just remove the wheels, and now also the handlebar (new vs. the older model) which gets a special protector setup strapping it to the fork, and lastly the rear derailleur which gets its own special bag to keep it secure. Even with the revised design (and additional disassembly) the new bags is 23cm longer, yet 4cm shorter than before – now 94 high x 147 long x 25cm wide.
The 14kg bag rolls on four of Scicon’s updated ‘twin wheel’ rollers that improve greatly on the older casters for durability, and includes removable shoulder & pull strap to get it around the airport.
The updated Scicon AeroComfort MTB keeps the same $900/600€ pricing as the older AeroComfort 3.0, and is available now direct from Scicon to get you riding trails away from home as soon as possible.
