Scott have added an all-new eMTB to their line-up; the Scott Patron eRide. In terms of travel, it slots between the Genius eRide and Ransom eRide, but boasts a bigger battery than both, with a Bosch Performance Line CX motor that is uniquely rotated backwards to accommodate a four-bar linkage that drives a shock hidden away inside the top tube. Such integration is nothing new for Scott, having adapted Bold’s technology to create their World Championship winning Scott Spark. Here’s how they’ve adapted it to a long travel eMTB.
Scott Patron eRide eMTB
The Scott Patron eRide eMTB runs 160mm travel, front and rear, with the latter delivered by a four-bar linkage driving a top tube integrated shock. While it sure does look very neat, tidy and impressive, the integration is about more than aesthetics. Hiding the shock inside the frame opens up space within the front triangle to accommodate the motor and a full size water bottle. There is also the added benefit of keeping trail crud away from the shock wiper seal.
The FOX Nude shock can be be switched between three different modes using Scott’s Twin-Loc system, with cables internally routed up through the top tube and onto the handlebar mounted remote via the updated Syncros Hixon IC SL one-piece stem and handlebar. Those modes are Lockout, Traction Control and Descend; rear wheel travel is reduced to 115mm in Lockout mode. For air pressure and rebound adjustments, the shock can be accessed via a removable panel on the underside of the top tube.
A look inside
This image of a transparent frame helps us make better sense of it all, showing how the cables are routed internally, how the 205mm x 60mm shock is mounted inside the top tube, how the Bosch Performance Line CX motor is uniquely tilted backwards within its housing, and how the 750Wh battery slides into the downtube just forward of the motor.
Taking a closer look, we can see how the four-bar linkage drives the shock via a linkage that is hidden within the front triangle, where the top tube and seat tube flow into one another. Scott tells us the kinematic of the Patron eRide was designed specifically around Bosch’s latest eMTB motor. The drive unit has been rotated by 46° and is now supported from underneath for improved integration, increased stiffness and improved heat management.
Scott Patron eRide Geometry
The Scott Patron eRide eMTB rolls on 29″ wheels with fixed geometry. It gets 454mm chainstays across the S-XL size range with reach figures stretching from 432.7mm to 501.2mm. The head angle sits at 65° on the M-XL frames, slightly slacker at 64.5° on the S frame. Seat tube angles are all appropriately upright starting at 77° on the Small, slackening ever so slightly to 76.8° on the XL.
The bottom bracket sits at a height of 347mm across the board, with 165mm crank arms on all sizes.
Pricing & Availability
There will be seven different versions of the Scott Patron eRide eMTB; the eRide 900 Ultimate, eRide 900 Tuned, eRide 900, eRide 910 and eRide 920, retailing at 10,999 €, 8,699 €, 7,699 €, 6,599 € and 5,999 €, respectively.
The two remaining models are women’s bikes; the Contessa eRide 900 and Contessa eRide 910, retailing at 7,699 € and 5,999 €, respectively. We don’t have full spec lists yet, but it’s likely the only differences between these Contessa models and the regular men’s models will be contact points and color.
