Scott Bikes Frames donated paul bas irideforpaul gambler voltrage spark (5)

As many of us have learned over the years, injuries seem to be part of the sport of mountain biking. When you’re a world class freeride athlete, the increase in the size and amplitude of the jumps means the potential for serious injury grows as well.

No one likes to see anyone get hurt, let alone one of the superstars many of us grew up watching. After Paul Basagoitia’s spectacular crash off of one of the biggest step downs in history at the Red Bull Rampage, his life was instantly altered with a severe spinal injury. Fortunately, as many times before the mountain bike community has come to his aide by offering support and through many generous donations. The latest of which comes from a partnership between Scott Sports and the Road 2 Recovery Foundation. Scott is donating 6 awesome frames including 1 of 2 Spark 700 RC Nino Schurter replicas that will soon be given away to lucky winners who helped by donating…

In addition to the Nino Schurter replica (and signed jersey) which was specially made for the 2014 World Championship in Hafjell, Norway, Scott is donating three Gambler 710 frames, one Team Replica Gstaad-Scott Gambler 710 frame, and one Voltage FR frame. Note that with the exception of the medium Spark frame, all others are size large. To be eligible to win simply donate $10 for 1 chance, $20 for 2 chances, or $50 for 6 chances at the raffle. You can pick which frame you would like to try to win, with each frame winner randomly selected on January 4th, 2016 at 12 noon, PST. Head over to Road 2 Recovery to donate.

This is so much better than providing insurance to your sponsored athletes. An ounce of prevention and all that…

Seriously, how do these athletes not have insurance from these companies? Aren’t they employees? They risk life and limb to advertise for you and then when they inevitably get injured there is no insurance money to help out? Kinda scary…. way more shady? But hey good luck with the raffle and having the consumer pay for the bills.

I do wish Paul the best of luck in his recovery, I just wish the sponsors would step up more when disaster happens.

@FoolCyclist that is the exact point I brought up months ago when this happened. It should be written into their contracts. I would love to see the waiver you have to sign for the rampage!

This is what is wrong with the world today!!!. I say great work by Scott!!!!!!!!!!!!! Extremely Sad for Paul, I will support them with my next purchase!!! @ all you that dissed the company for not providing insurance here is something to think about. If you are an athlete competing in a extreme sport, why did you not make sure yourself to have insurance? The onus is on the individual not the company. What happened to the world, we need take to take ownership and responsibility for our own life?
