Watertown, Massachusetts based Seven Cycles has launched a new, more user-friendly website. It is markedly more navigable and intuitive than the older incarnation of the site, with easy access to classic Seven Cycles features like the “Where’s My Frame” frame-tracking service, that allows you to see where in the production process your new bike is. There are also prominently displayed links to Seven-related press, featured products, and, most interestingly, a “Spotlight” section, which is currently spotlighting a Seven-sponsored year-long Silk Road Cycling expedition.
More on that and highlights of some of the other site features after the break…
In the Press section of site you’ll find links to a Sophisticated Living piece on Seven’s Axiom 007 SL tandem.
A bicycle built for two and weighing just 7.7 pounds without couplers, the Axiom 007 SL by Seven Cycles ($6,000 per frameset) features their exclusive Argen™ butted titanium tubeset and a host of tandem-specific features, like an eccentric bottom bracket and a lateral tube design for torsional rigidity and light weight.
In the Featured Product section you’ll find a blurb on the Diamas S, Seven’s all carbon road bike.
The third model in the Diamas series takes our carbon fiber technology and applies it in a more conservative, value-oriented approach. Multi-modulus rounded carbon tubing delivers spirited performance in a traditional presentation. Customization and durability are maximized to ensure performance is sustained for years to come.
But what I found most interesting was the Spotlight section featuring an interview with Kate Harris and Mel Yule, called “The Things They Carried:
What To Pack For A Year Long Silk Road Expedition.” (Those are their bikes in the photo at the top of the post.) What those two are doing is 100 times more interesting and infinitely more hardcore than what I’m up to over the next year or so. I might be doing some serious vicarious living through their Facebook page and website: Cycling Silk.
Although there is a chance that I could qualify to become their third teammate…when asked about who their ideal third wheel would be, Kate and Mel responded:
Our ideal third teammate would be a professional bike mechanic and masseuse, fluent in all Silk Road languages, with the voice of David Attenborough so they could narrate the documentary film as we go. If you meet these qualifications, do get in touch.
I’ve got the mechanic thing down, I can probably fake the masseuse thing. My Turkish is good enough to order some gozleme and tea. All I need to work on is my Russian, Mandarin, Turkmen, Tibetan, maybe Mongolian, and a few other languages. That, and my David Attenborough impression. I got this.
