Looking for a better connection between your feet and the pedals? Shimano has a number of new shoes that should be up to the task. Called the GE & GF footwear lines, those letters stand for Gravity Enduro or Gravity Flat. As the names would suggest, the GE line is all clipless and the GF line is all flat to suit different riders’ needs in footwear.
Gravity Enduro Shoes
GE900
Calling it their flagship gravity race SPD shoe, the new GE900 includes a TORBAL 2.0 midsole “that allows the heel section to move torsionally, maintaining full range of motion for improved comfort, fluidity, and on-bike control.” The closure is a mixture of a BOA L6 dial and a large velcro strap, and there’s a neoprene ankle collar to keep out debris. On the bottom, you’ll find their ULTREAD GE outsole with an SPD cleat pocket for grip when clipped in, or not.

GE700

GE500/GE500W
At the GE500 level, we also see a GE500W or women’s shoe that use the same TORBAL 2.0 midsole and ULTREAD GE outsole as the higher end shoes. To drop the price at this level, you get a half-length EVA mid-sole and less ventilation.

GF600

GF800 GTX
For those living in colder, wetter climates, the new GF800 GTX looks like an interesting option. Built with a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane, the shoes have a mid-cut ankle sock liner with a Gore-Tex membrane, and a single BOA L6 dial for easy operation with gloves.
Underneath, you’ll find a special ULTREAD GF low-temperature outsole to keep the shoes sticking to the pedals when it’s cold.
