Tired of not being seen? Then it might be time for more extreme measures in terms of illumination. In an effort to create a system that makes cyclists more visible and predictable in the eyes of drivers, the team at WAYV has created an LED indication system that should have you covered form all angles.
Consisting of a lightweight harness/vest, a ‘headset’ that mounts to your helmet, a handlebar switch, and a smartphone app, the WAYV system features over 200 LEDs to provide that safe look straight out of Tron.
More than just illumination, the WAYV vest and headset include turn signals that clearly and visibly communicate your intentions to other road users. The plethora of LEDs should ensure that the signals can be seen from most angles, and an amber hue follows in line with many vehicle turn signals.
The signals are operated through the wireless remote on the bar, and a simple flick of the lever up or down signals left or right. The indicator LEDs let you know when they’re on.
The included app provides further control of the flashing patterns, brightness, and battery life. The whole system is waterproof and rechargeable.
The helmet headset claims to fit most ventilated helmet and includes the same red X and amber turn signals as the vest.
The vest can be worn on its own or attached to a backpack for commuting, and it features an X-strap design in the front for non-gender specific comfort.
Offered initially through Kickstarter, the WAYV system is currently selling for around $91 (shipping and tax may be more), and is expected fvor an October delivery.
