DT Swiss FR570 Rim_000

Set for an official launch at Eurobike in a few weeks, DT Swiss had this brand new downhill oriented rim on display at Crankworx. The rim is updated version of the one Aaron Gwin unsuccessfully attempted to destroy at Leogang.

At that World Cup DH Race, Aaron flatted shortly into the race and continued to ride flat out on nothing but rim. If you haven’t seen the footage, stop whatever you’re doing and check it out here.

UPDATE: More specs added at bottom…

The new rim uses a similar extrusion and bead as the FR600, but in keeping with trends, has a wider internal diameter.

Other changes to the rim included the addition of eyelets. This ads a slight amount of weight but makes the wheels easier to true. This trade off is particularly important in the DH segment, where wheels are frequently subjected to extreme conditions and need to be serviced more often.

The number in each of DT’s model names indicates the weight of the rim. So while officially this is the FR570, we’re going to have to call it the FR560, because the 27.5″ rim came in well under claimed.

  • 33mm outside-to-outside width
  • 27.5mm inner width
  • 22.5mm height
  • Rim dimension: 584 x 27.5mm
  • Tubeless ready with DT Swiss tubeless ready tape and MTN tubeless valve stems (not included)
  • MSRP USA: Around $100

The bike industry needs to look up the word “diameter” in the dictionary.

That’s a pretty good weight for an aluminum DH rim in 27.5″

I’m pretty sure he rode the EX471, not the FR600. It was also 26, not 27.5. This is a shot from the finish.

That is one HUGE scale display!

That scale display has an ETRTO of what looks like 559… I won’t buy a scale with a display of anything less than 584 these days.
