Every once in a while we get a chance to check out the latest products before they’re officially released (and allowed to write about it). Officially, Sun Ringle’s latest wheels will be unveiled at Sea Otter, but we were able to grab a few photos and squeeze out enough information about the new Düroc SD and Mulefüt 80SL V2 to give you a little sneak peek.

As a continuation of their Düroc line, the new Düroc SD is meant as a more burly option for those who are looking for increased rim strength. We’re guessing the SD stands for Super Duty as these feature a welded construction with eyeletted spoke holes and likely a thicker sidewall to create a stronger wheel. Sun Ringle was hiding two different Düroc SD models, one for both 27.5 and 29″. The rims were labeled as 37 for the 29er and 42 for the 27.5″, leading us to believe that the number is their external width which is in line with their current naming convention. We’re guessing both wheel sizes will be available in both widths.

Built with Sun Ringle’s straight pull SRX hubs with WheelSmith spokes, we’d assume these will be shipped with all the accessories (STR tubeless tape, STR tubeless valves, STR sealant, and both XD and standard drivers) like other Sun Ringle wheels which makes them one of the best values around.

Fully tubeless compatible, the rims should include the same bead humps that help retain the tire for better tubeless performance. The rest of the details are TBA, but we’ll know soon enough.

On the Mulefüt side, one of the biggest changes looks to be new trapezoid cutouts in the rim. Not only does it give the rim a facelift and a more modern appearance, but we wouldn’t be surprised to find out that it drops some weight as well. It does look like the option to build offset wheels is gone though as the wheels no longer have 64 holes – just a staggered 32.

Built with J-Bend SRC hubs and brass nipples, the 80mm wide rims should still be available in 150 front and 177/197mm rear hub options.

It’s no surprise that the Mulefüt 80SL V2 also continues with STR or Sun Ringle Tubeless Ready tech. Brass nipples are a nice touch for anyone that has had alloy nipples on a fat bike wheelset crumble after too much salt exposure.

Look for the full reveal on both of these wheelsets and more from Sea Otter later this month!

I have a set of the 27.5 duroc 50 rims and the eyelets are not an issue. I have more than my share of large dents in both rims. They have held up reasonably well compared to other rims but they could certainly benefit from a thicker sidewall.

nice looking rims, but I have to ask why does Ringle list their outer widths and not inner? Otter width does me no good.
