Sony introduces a case for their line of action cams, (excluding the latest 4K model due to button configuration) with a 2.7 inch flip out screen. This may at first seem novel, but when you want to actually get a good shot at any moving object while holding the camera, it is actually pretty difficult to do without either holding it directly in front of your face and moving your whole body or “pointing” it in the general direction of the action hoping to get lucky. Rather than a whole new camera, Sony is offering the ability to upgrade your current model with this impressive case…

Though flashbacks of dad at your birthday party come to mind, this is a handy tool that can take your existing Sony action cam and expand on what you use it for in addition to getting a better hand held shot. The case doesn’t have a battery so the screen is powered off of the cam’s battery which will like mean shorter run times when in use. The 2.7 inch LCD screen also rotates 180 degrees so you can get the perfect selfie video of yourself in case you don’t have friends….. present. The case bumps dimensions to 1 11/16 x 2 5/8 x 4 1/8″ ( 42 x 64.5 x 102.5(mm)), and adds 135g to the weight of the camera. Sony’s “Handheld Grip with LCD Screen” (AKA-LU1) is compatible with their HDR-AS200V, HDR-AS100V, HDR-AS20, HDR-AS30V, HDR-AS15, and HDR-AS10 action cams, and retails for $99.99.

I swear they had something like this when the action cam first came out. I was going to get one but the action cam disappointed me so much I sold it and got a go pro

This is probably a re-dux of last years same flip-out that was made for the HDR-AS100V.
Last years flip-out had pin issues where the pin behind the red record Start/Stop button wasn’t strong enough and required very firm actuation to get the record on the actioncam to work.

No support for AZ1, there. So all but the 4k and Mini, then.
