Specialized have launched their new road, mountain bike, and casual lifestyle apparel for Spring 2021. The new collection features a plethora of performance fabrics designed for UV-protection, moisture management, and heat management. At the core of the line is sustainability, with recycled polyester used throughout. Here’s a quick preview.
Specialized Spring ’21 Cycling Gear
Specialized have gone hard on the technical fabric front for Spring 21′ with a host of functional thread types designed to protect you from the sun’s rays, wick moisture away from your skin, and keep you cool as you ride into sunnier climes (hooray).
We’ve received some samples of the new Spring ’21 Trail Series Kit, including all-new Trail Series MTB Pants. The 4-way stretch fabric permits good freedom of movement while the baggier knee area allows plenty of room for proper knee pads. Our first impressions of the range are good. We’re keen to see the rest of the line, and are hoping to see gender parity with the use of the technical fabrics.
So, what are these so-called technical fabrics? Here’s what Specialized have to say.
MiniR
MiniR is a trademarked performance fabric, made from an exclusive yarn technology that reflects the sun’s rays to keep the wearer cool and will not wash out or wear out. It has a high UPF rating to provide longer sun protection for the skin.
MiniR reflects Near Infrared Rays (NIR) up to 65%-75%, and absorbs 25%-35% of the suns rays. The fabric is durable and has a UPF 50+ to block UV rays.
Deflect UV
Ultraviolet rays are present in all types of weather, and regardless of whether it’s sunny or overcast, we know that you’re out riding. Our Deflect UV fabric-based skincare protects you from the harmful effects of UV rays. All of our clothing has a Deflect UV rating between UPF 30 and 50+. Deflect® UV is breathable, chemical free, and won’t wear or wash out over time.
Drirelease
Drirelease with FreshGuard offers a patented blend of 85-90% hydrophobic/synthetic, “water-hating” fibers and 10-15% natural hydrophilic/Merino, “water-loving” fibers. This intimate combination wicks moisture away from the skin and pushes it to the outside of the fabric where it can evaporate quickly.
The result? You stay dry and comfortable over the course of a ride. Meanwhile, FreshGuard is an odor neutralizer that’s embedded in all Drirelease fabrics, keeping you smelling fresh. Even better, it’ll never wash out.
VapoRize
VapoRize moisture management fabrics pull sweat away from the skin in order to regulate body temperature and keep you dry while riding. The structure of the fabric itself creates a capillary action to move moisture away.
SUPIMA cotton
SUPIMA cotton features a longer fiber length raw material with increased durability and a softer feel.
Sustainability
Specialized is committed to Pedaling the Planet Forward and we’re making a conscious effort to make our apparel line sustainable wherever possible. You will see recycled polyester fabrics throughout the line.
