Ever ridden a production bike and wished you could just make a few tweaks that you felt would make it the perfect bike? Stage Race has. When you work closely with a bike company both distributing and selling their product, sometimes you have the opportunity to voice those desires and in the case of the Scapin Ivor, the result is the new GT Edition.
The crew at Stage Race loves fast bikes, but they are also fans of slightly larger tires and a bit more relaxed geometry. Situated as the high end bike in the Scapin line up, the Ivor previously offered only race ready geometry and fairly tight tire clearance. The new GT model provides a new option for the Italian carbon marque along side the standard and full custom options…
The Ivor boasts wider tire clearance, but how wide? The clearance is listed at 27mm. Why 27? It seems the frame clearance was designed around the Challenge Paris-Roubaix tire which is sold in a 27mm width. Obviously different tires on various rims will result in varied widths so some 28mm tires may fit depending on the circumstances.
Carrying an MSRP of $4,999 for the frame set, that price will get you the frame in either the standard Race or custom GT geometry while full custom geometry is still available for a $500 upcharge. Frames are also available with mechanical or electronic internal routing and a choice of 9 different colors with the rider’s name on the downtube.
Just shown earlier this year at Sea Otter, the Scapin Anouk has already received some changes which includes a lighter 975g frame thanks to a change in the t700/800 UD carbon fiber used in production. Still designed around Granfondo use, the frame still uses a 27.2 seat post, PF86 BB, tapered fork, and clearance for 27mm tires.
Frame, fork, and headset will sell for $2,199 and are available in 2 colors and 5 sizes.
Another niche brand available through Stage Race Distribution is the Japanese brand Ceepo. Started in 2003, the brand has focused on triathlon and aero road bikes that can be used for TT or Tri purposes.
The Stinger is Ceepo’s aero road bike with a reversible seat post to accommodate the different riding positions. While the basic layout of the frame stays the same for 2015, the Stinger is upgraded with direct mount brakes both front and rear, with the rear brake being repositioned to the chainstay. Fuselage packages include the 1000g frame, aero reversible post and direct mount brakes and will be available for $2,175 in 5 sizes.
Built for full on triathlon use, the Viper is classic Ceepo. The UD carbon frame has been tuned in the wind tunnel to be an aerodynamically efficient but also smart in the way of rider adjustments and built in features. Instead of carrying your flat kit behind the saddle, the Viper includes a chainstay mounted c02 cartridge holder. Framed use either integrated TTV brakes or front disc brake, as well as BB386, dual cable routing, and a reversible seat post.
Available in white for 2015, the fuselage kits will sell for $4,399 in 4 sizes.
