Sub 19lb Mondraker F-Podium prototype full suspension XC Race bike is F-ing light

We’ve been hearing from Mondraker for a bit now that they had something revolutionary in the works. It would be ultra light weight, and most likely made in Germany. Well, after months of speculation, we finally got the first look at the F Podium Prototype, and it seems to have been worth the wait.

Apparently, this is the same bike that has been spotted under the Primaflor Mondraker XC racing team, though it is one of the first times it has been shown as the official model. The F-Podium RR SL will be a 100mm travel XC race bike with an impressive frame that will supposedly bring a new level of carbon fiber production technology to the world of mountain biking.

We weren’t actually told who would be producing the bike, other than that it was the 2nd largest carbon manufacturer in the world who has produced parts for companies like Boeing and Porsche, BMW, and others. A quick glance at the downtube however suggests that the frame is manufactured by the 3C Composite Company.

Evidently, the owner of the carbon company approached Mondraker with the desire to create the best and lightest full suspension bike in the market, and it is their first time making a bicycle. Based on the weight of the prototype at 18.52lbs as shown without pedals, it seems like they’re not far off.

The F-Podium uses the same suspension design as other Mondrakers, though the frame is said to have a slightly higher anti-squat kinematic for XC racing.

Currently, only 10 bikes have been produced with 6-7 of them devoted to their race team for testing. Mondraker hopes for the production model to be available by 2019, though it’s possible it might end up being a 2020 model as well. As it sits, retail value will be over $11,000, so don’t expect it to be cheap.

Maxxlites and no pedals are cheating, even my porky open mold XC FS 29er will be about the same if you do that (and for half the price). What’s the frame weight with hardware and shock?

You could also add no dropper, non Eagle XX1, insanely expensive wheel, i mean who would/could ride that ? If you had the money for this thing you would really go 11speed to save 120gr ?

No kidding. If I ran those tires and had no pedals my XC bike would be 2.14lb lighter (low 21lb). And I have heavy bars (800mm risers), big Ergon grips with stubby bar ends, dual lockouts, King hubs (which aren’t exactly light), and aluminum cranks.

Also thought that the 22mm mounts died back in 2001.

Great question Machu. Other than manufacturers needing to sell out their old stock of post mount frames, flat mounts are superior. There simply lighter No sacrifice in anything else.

The gap (or lack there of) between the stem and frame looks like it’s asking to be clogged up by dirt.
Otherwise very nice except those tires…….

I’m going to go on a diet myself instead. Should be able to lose 10 pounds for way less money.

This is ridiculous. I can go buy an S work Epic hardtail for $3000 less that is the same weight and has proven itself to be bomb proof, not to mentioned it has won more XC titles than any other bike.

Mondraker I am not sure what you bring to the table with this other than bad decision making by the leaders of the company. If you have a ton of cash to flutter away, spend it on better benefits for your employees.

then you will have to deal with the shame of riding a bike from a brand run by lawyers… besides it did not won more xc titles than any other bike lol.
And you have to deal with their boomproof warranty when the chainstays crack… google is your friend.

Riders win races, not bikes. Especially these days when all top shelf bikes are all so damn good.

Zach Overholt (author) , yes do take note of the first comments. How dumb do you think we are? 18 and a half pounds is no big deal especially with those insane wheels and nearly knobless tires! Story should be on those ridiculous Wheels man!
