Recently, Saris announced a new offering in their SuperClamp hitch rack lineup. The SuperClamp G4 4-Bike Hitch Rack offers more capacity than Saris’ popular SuperClamp 2-bike rack. This model should appeal to families, group riders/shuttlers and ebike riders: The rack’s inner two trays can carry up to 60 lbs each.
The SuperClamp G4 4-Bike rack simply expands upon the 2-bike model’s design, so it adds capacity without adding complexity. It offers quick operation, integrated locks and wheel arms that are compatible with fenders and don’t touch your bike’s frame.
SuperClamp G4 4-Bike Hitch Rack:
The SuperClamp G4 rack features Saris’ fixed position, spring-loaded arms that secure bikes by their front tires. Saris’ wheel arms are fender compatible: As the photos show, the arm only rotates upwards to about 45 degrees, leaving room in front of the fork for fenders. Saris also says the arms will securely hold your bike even if the tire loses air pressure.
The SuperClamp G4 hitch rack fits bikes with 20-29” wheels, wheelbases up to 52”, and tires up to 4.5” wide. An adjustable front wheel block adapts the rack to different bike sizes. Adjusting the block between the rack’s three available positions requires an allen key but is a simple job. The rack is designed to prevent frame contact between bikes, which the adjustable wheel blocks can help ensure.
Rear wheels are secured with a typical ratcheting strap/buckle mechanism that slides along the tray. Saris has added a nifty strap keeper function to their mechanism so the open strap hooks onto it, staying out of the way of the wheel while you’re loading a bike.
The SuperClamp G4’s tilting feature allows the rack to tilt downwards, affording access to your trunk/hatch even with bikes loaded. The rack also folds up vertically to reduce its footprint when not in use.
As for weight capacity, the two inner trays can carry up to 60 lbs each, but the outer two trays max out at 35 lbs. While this rack is indeed ebike friendly it’s good for two, not a full load of four!
Receiver and Integrated Locks:
The SuperClamp G4 hitch rack is available with a 2” receiver only, and is not compatible with RV’s. The hitch features Saris’ tool-free anti-wobble system, which simply tightens by hand to eliminate movement of the rack.
This rack comes with everything you need to keep your bikes safe too. An integrated lock system secures the bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. Locks are neatly built into the wheel hooks for each bike, preventing the release handle from functioning.
The SuperClamp G4 4-Bike Hitch Rack is primarily made from aluminum, and weighs 63 lbs. I watched Saris’ assembly video for this rack, and it looks like a pretty easy job.
