Trek Travel's Traveling Di2 Powerstation

What are you to do when you have an entire fleet of 2013 Domane 5.9s and Madone 6.5s that all run on Shimano Di2 drivetrains? Build a 22 battery portable charger in a gun case, that’s what. At least that’s the solution that Trek Travel’s logistics manager came up with. The case allows for all of the batteries to be charged simultaneously, and since each charger only draws about .5 amps of power, it apparently won’t trip any circuit breakers. And I thought my battery chargers were organized…

More pictures of the creation after the break.

Two Belkin power strips offer surge protection for the entire array as well as the ability to only plug in one cord.

Given the battery life of Di2 batteries, we’re assuming this isn’t for every day use, but when you run a travel company with people depending on your bikes it’s better to be over prepared.

One power strip plugs into the other, and the whole lot is then plugged into an outlet via one cord.

Looks like they used one of the gun cases the Dorado Pro used to come in.

I’m sure the TSA would have a blast finding that at the airport.

Proposed legislation will most likely ban this battery charger. The number of batteries contained within that gun case clearly categorizes it as an assault charger.

I’m actually surprised they didn’t just ask Shimano or someone else to build them a “multi-charger”. Seems like that would be easier and less cumbersome to carry around.

You shouldn’t daisy-chain power strips. It ain’t cool man.

As long as they don’t try charging it with the lid closed – they’ll kill 22 batteries in a single go. Batteries hate heat when they’re being charged…..

@LP at ~.5A per charger we are looking at ~11A

Then comes Specialized with something lighter, more compact, and more expensive, named the SS Di2 Hi Me 2.
