While the original article on UK’s Daily Mail has been edited to remove the worst of the article’s paragraphs, there’s still plenty of anti-cyclist verbage in James Martin’s “review” of the Tesla roadster.
Olympic medal winning cyclist Brad Wiggins caught on to the article and began his Twitter rant, pulling cycling and mainstream press into the story.  During his review, Martin spends three paragraphs just telling how much he hates cyclists.
Then, before being retracted by Mail, he stated:
“Knowing they wouldn’t hear me coming, I stepped on the gas, waited until the split second before I overtook them, then gave them an almighty blast on the horn at the exact same time I passed them at speed.
“The look of sheer terror as they tottered into the hedge was the best thing I’ve ever seen in my rear-view mirror. I think this could be the car for me.”
Of course, in the event he ever hits a cyclist (or pedestrian for that matter), the article and his comments will undoubtedly provide all the evidence of ‘intent’ needed, and apparently he’s already broken UK law by using his horn aggressively.  Per usual in this day and age, there’s already an ‘I Hate James Martin’ Facebook group.
For its part, Tesla Motors has refused to publish the review on their site, and they appear to be a pretty cycling-friendly company.  Carlton Reid reports that their communications director is an avid cyclist, member of the San Francisco Cycling Coalition and occasional critical mass participant.
