Inspired by the extra protection of the open-face Jet-style motorcycle trials helmets of their youth, Urge has been making 3/4-shell enduro helmets since at least 2012 with their RealJet. Reissued on their 10th anniversary, six years ago the RealJet offered extra coverage and retro appeal. But it couldn’t compete with the latest helmets on pretty much any real performance characteristics.

So, they decided to build a much more modern 3/4-shell enduro & all-mountain helmet.

Their new Rascas is fully-vented for maximum airflow and plenty of summer ride cooling with 3 front-facing, 3 top & 4 rear vents, plus large ear openings. Then it gets Urge’s ERT pads to isolate the rider’s head from rotational & linear impact forces, even at lower speeds. And tops it off with a soft padded and moisture-wicking bamboo lining for comfort.

And it does all that at impressive weights less than half of the old RealJet. From a claimed 420-480g depending on size, this could be one of the lightest 3/4 shell enduro helmets out there.

Eco-friendly construction

Often one of the most unique and interesting features of many Urge helmets, is their use of alternative, more environmentally-friendly materials than we are used to seeing – while still providing safe & affordable protection.

The newest bit of eco-friendly tech in this all-new Urge Rascas helmet is its fully recycled polycarbonate shell. Creating the outer PC shell of an in-mold helmet out of recycled material has taken many years for Urge to figure out. And the Rascas is their first helmet to do it, finally meaning they say the helmet can made entirely of recycled or renewable bio-based materials.

Recycled polycarbonate does limit possible color choices, so for now Urge can only offer the Rascas in 1 color as fully made of recycled content – in Dark Moon. That color name comes from how the almost black helmet reflects dark blue under direct sunlight – the color coming from the recycled plastic bottles used to make the material.

Besides its shell, all colors of the Urge Rascas mountain bike helmet feature post-industrial recovered EPS foam, recycled polyamide visors, recycled ABS for its plastic hardware, recycled PET for the straps, and rapidly renewable bamboo lining pads.
