Spotted at the Fixed Gear Bikes blog is this chair made by Finnish industrial designer Juha Perä.
The chair employs bicycle frames that are no longer fit for use as the god of riding intended them, and simply changes their use with as little waste as possible.
They’re easy to assemble using only a couple of wing-nut assisted bolts, are easily transportable and very ecologically friendly – even the fabric is recycled.
Aesthetically… it could work for me. But I’m glad that even when their transporting days are over, old bikes aren’t all going to the landfill – this is only one of several projects going to re-use them. Given that steel frames can go on for ever, though, the one in the picture looks pretty pristine. No killing healthy bikes!
