Velodroom kickstarter (1)

After being brought to our attention back in May, the Velodroom wireless brake light is now live on Kickstarter. With no on or off switch, the Velodroom senses movement and turns itself on, projecting a beam of light that varies based on the ambient light. When the accelerometers detect the bike is slowing down, a super bright brake light is deployed which is designed for visibility from more than 300 meters. Built with a micro-USB rechargeable battery and an easy on/off mount, the light is available on Kickstarter for a pretty reasonable £25/35 ($40/55) depending how quickly you get to it.

In addition to the lights there are few quite interesting James Bond themed pledge levels, including For Your Rides Only – which includes one (!) custom Viks Bicycle above, designed and hand made by Indrek Narusk. Equipped with a black Velodroom light, this single bike bears the serial number 007 while also being an incredible bike.

There is also a BMX version of the Velodroom available – more details next.

If it was unclear why Velodroom’s first video came from the grounds of the SimpleSession BMX competition, the answer is the Velodroom BMX limited edition.

In order to claim ramp and street worthiness, the BMX edition Velodroom features an aluminum body and stainless steel strap. No quick release, just allen wrenches.  At £111 or $174, it’s quite a bit more than the standard Velodroom, but hey – it’s a limited edition.

Velodroom is looking to raise £34,600, and the Kickstarter runs until July 4.
