With the hectic holidays upon us, it’s a great time to take a break and enjoy some of the latest cycling videos from the world wide web. In this video roundup we have not one, but two rad clips from Mexico – one from Jeff Kendall-Weed, and the other a Red Bull Media House look at Oaxaca, Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos celebrations as riders finish the first ever Trans-Sierra Norte enduro race right ino the heart of the festival. We’ll also get a peek at Kali Protective’s new backyard setup, watch Keegan Wright ripping up New Zealand, follow Cameron Nicholls as he rides across NZ, witness David Cachon’s unique approach to riding Caceres, and see Santa himself busting some impressive moves on an e-bike.
Jeff Kendall-Weed’s edits always embody what we love so much about riding. The new locations, food, the people, riding with the locals, and above all, just having a great time on a bike with a huge grin. In the latest clip, Jeff heads down to Ixtapan de la Sal with local photographer and guide, Haitman Rivas.
Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) is a Mexican celebration that is held to welcome back visiting spirits of those who have passed away. The people of Oaxaca are known for enthusiastically celebrating the day with fireworks, ornate masks or skeleton-painted faces, and dancing in the streets.
For the first time this year, the Trans-Sierra Norte enduro race was held in the Oaxacan highlands. Finishing in Oaxaca right when the fireworks start popping off, the race drops riders into one of Mexico’s most renowned cultural events. This video follows local trail builder and race official Yefra Rham as he prepares for the Dia de los Muertos celebrations, pays his respects to his deceased younger brother, and of course tears up his local trails.
The folks at Kali decided the dirt jumps behind their Morgan Hills facility were looking a bit tired after a few very dry summers. With Alex Fowler from Action Sports Construction at the helm, they set out to build a pumptrack, wall ride line, moto loop and of course some new dirt jumps. This video gives a good look at the construction process, but I guess we’ll have to wait for some rider edits to get a complete overview of the new setup…
In Episode Two of The Wright Line, we join enduro racer Keegan Wright as he rips through New Zealand’s Cardrona Bike Park. Wright stylishly manhandles his new Devinci Spartan on Cardrona’s flowy singletrack, rock slabs and jumps until he finally reaches valley bottom and caps off his ride in the best way possible – at the local pub!
Looks like Santa himself has been a bit naughty this year! It also looks like he knows how to send it on jumps and built-up features (maybe it’s a bit of the same magic that makes his sleigh fly). When ol’ Kris Kringle accidentally discovers a shiny new Cannondale Moterra eMTB, he can’t resist treating himself to a test ride. At least he topped the muddy e-bike battery off before heading back up he chimney.
Riding across any sizeable country is a feat itself, let alone doing it in the middle of winter. But that’s exactly when co-founder of Bike Chaser Cameron Nicholls decided to pedal across New Zealand. Nicholls rode 2336 km’s (1452 miles), which took 13 days and 89 solid hours in the saddle.
He faced some interesting challenges along the way, like getting bit by a farm dog on day two and having his water bottles freeze solid. Nicholls also did something warm and fuzzy while freezing his butt off- His ride raised $11,000 for CanTeen NZ and Australia, a charity who supports young people living with cancer.
Trials riders are like the jazz musicians of the cycling world. Even if you personally find DH or BMX riding more exciting, you have to respect the level of skill and incredible balance these riders possess. In this video, 2x Trials World Champion and bike adventurer David Cachon explores Caceres, Spain’s second largest province. Just as you’d expect from Danny Mac or Chris Akrigg, Cachon finds some pretty creative lines while tackling rocks, trails and urban features in this edit.
