Wahoo have dropped their first multisport GPS Watch; the ELEMNT Rival. Designed to work with or without the ELEMNT Roam or ELEMNT Bolt cycle computers to seamlessly record all legs of multisport events, the Wahoo ELEMNT Rival can also operate Wahoo’s range of KICKR smart trainers. We cover all the important features of the Wahoo ELEMNT Rival right here.
Wahoo ELEMNT Rival GPS Watch
The Wahoo ELEMNT Rival is intended for high-performance multi-sport athletes who need data to help them perform in the water, on the bike, or on the road. Key to that is the touchless transition feature. In the Triathlon Workout profile, the watch automatically transitions through the different legs of the race without the wearer having to interact with the watch.
With the multi-sport handover feature, the GPS Watch will automatically pair with the triathlete’s ELEMNT Roam (or BOLT) on their bike as they transition from the swim to the bike leg.
Depending on the motion of your wrist and the speed at which you are traveling, touchless transitions can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes to react to starting the next leg of your race. Manual transitions are still available with the touchless transitions feature turned on.
Everything you might expect from a modern Sports GPS Watch
The Wahoo ELEMNT Rival records the athlete’s heart rate using an optical sensor, collecting training and recovery HR data 24/7. It can also be paired with a HR monitor, when you want to be sure you’re getting the most accurate data possible. With the data uploaded to the Wahoo Companion App, the wearer will be able to see how much time they spent in each HR Zone throughout an activity.
Other sensors the ELEMNT Rival can pair with include Power Meters, Cadence sensors and Speed sensors via ANT+ or Bluetooth. Built into the GPS Watch is a barometric altimeter which will track the elevation profile of your ride.
The 64 color 240×240 screen will display up to 3 widgets (bits of info) per page; customize each page to show combinations of the following data:
- Battery status
- 24/7 Heart Rate
- Daily Active Calories
- Steps (daily step goal)
- Weekly Workout Time (weekly number of hours goal)
- Weekly swim distance (weekly distance goal)
- Weekly cycling distance (weekly distance goal)
- Weekly run distance (weekly distance goal)
- World Clock
Other cool features on the Wahoo ELEMNT Rival
The ELEMNT Rival has an ambient light sensor that detects light levels during your workouts and can turn the display automatically from dark to light mode, improving the visibility of data pages during workouts. The ALS will also help optimize the backlight during workouts.
As a multisport GPS watch, it’s kind of a given that the ELEMNT Rival is waterproof to 5ATM. For the swim leg of your triathlon, the Rival can collect data such as distance, pace, stroke count, stroke rate and calories and number of lengths as you can customize the pool size.
The Rival comes pre-loaded with a few workout profiles, but you can import more from the Companion App. For each workout profile you can edit the following:
- Customize/add/remove workout pages
- Enable/disable heart rate
- Enable/disable GPS (if supported)
- Enable/disable auto-pause
- Auto lap off/distance/time
The Wahoo ELEMNT Rival battery will last up to 14 days when being used as a Smart Watch. In GPS mode, it will give you 24 hours.
