Viathon announced a new build option for their G.1 gravel bike. While the initial launch came with a SRAM Red AXS build and Hed Vanquish wheels (with a $7k price point), the newest option sports Shimano GRX and less-costly wheels. The $2,998 price point is perhaps more of what we expected from the Walmart-owned brand.
The frame and fork are identical to the SRAM-equipped build (check out our previous tech download for full details and geometry). It checks the boxes for gravel bike trends in 2020 – disc brakes, 12mm thru axles, and three bottle mounts (one on the bottom of the downtube).
Viathon opted for a 1x Shimano GRX drivetrain, using a 42t chainring and 11-42 cassette.
The bar, stem, and seatpost all come from the Zipp Service Course line. Mercury G1C Disc wheels roll on IRC Boken 700 x 40mm tires (with Kenda tubes).
The G.1 GRX is available now for $2,998. It includes a two-year warranty for the original owner.
