All the new bottom bracket standards got you down? Wheels MFG. might have the answer. Whether you’re looking to install that new BB or simply figure out what size it is, their new Bearing Drift/Sizing Guide should do the trick. On its own the tool serves as a sizing guide for both PF BB bores and as internal BB bearing bores, but add it to their current Press-7 or new Press-1 handle and rod assembly, and you have the perfect BB press tool…
Unsure whether that bottom bracket is for 22, 24, or 30mm spindles? The tool has a fit gauge for that. It also includes gauges for 37, 41, 42, and 46mm BB shell diameters. The machined aluminum tool is anodized red with laser etched numbers for easy identification and is sized to fit 1/2″ threaded rod. Sold individually, each Universal BB Drift will sell for $10.
The drift is the perfect pair for the new Press-1 handle and rod assembly which is anodized to match. Selling for just $51, the Press-1 adds nicer handles and brass inserts over the less expensive Press-7.
While we’re on the subject of bottom brackets, Wheels MFG let us in on a little trick to fit your next frame with BB30a (asymmetric). Apparently, the biggest difference between BB30a and BBright is that the 30a shell is 73mm wide while BBright is 79mm. That means you can take a BBright bottom bracket from Wheels MFG, add 6mm of cup spacers to the non-drive side, and voila. Your BBright is now a BB30a.
