Campagnolo Ekar is bringing Italian drivetrains back to stock OEM bike builds outside of road racing for what feels like the first time in more than a decade. Working in bike shops around the year 2000 it wasn’t uncommon to see affordable Campy groups on touring and (gasp!) mixed surface dropbar bikes from companies like Bianchi. Now paired up with 3T, Mason, Pinarello, Repete, Ridley, Sage, Specialized, Titici, and Wilier you can get the new lightweight & reasonably affordable Campagnolo Ekar 1×13 gravel groupset on a number of premium gravel bikes, even a 1x road bike too! These aren’t entry-level bikes, but none of them get near what a wide SRAM AXS group will cost you…

Update: We keep getting more Ekar-equipped bikes dropping into our inboxes, so we’ll keep adding here this week so you can find all the latest & greatest!

So far we don’t know the full detailed spec & final price of each of the bikes available with the new Campy Ekar 1×13 gravel group, but we have enough info to give you a start where to look. Campagnolo has been working hard to get their new group spec’d on a wide range of different gravel bikes, and on some of the most sought after bikes, both new bikes this season and popular stalwarts. So far, they include the: new 3T Exploro RaceMax, Pinarello Grevil, the new Ridley Kanzo Fast, new Specialized Diverge, Wilier Triestina Jena, and many more

New 3T Exploro RaceMax with Campagnolo Ekar

3T Exploro Race x Ekar

The 3T Exploro RaceMax is the newest of the gravel bikes to get fitted with Campy Ekar. It should be the lightest stock gravel Race setup for the new 3T with 700c alloy Fulcrum Rapid Red 9 (?) wheels and low-profile 40mm Conti gravel tires to tuck in close for the RaceMax’s RAM & WAM optimized aerodynamics.

The 3T Exploro Race Ekar 1×13  sells for 5400€, placing it between their GRX mechanical & AXS wireless builds, but you’ll have to wait until December to get this one.

Pinarello Grevil with Campagnolo Ekar

Pinarello Grevil x Ekar

Pinarello’s curvy Grevil came out last year and continues the Italian bikemaker’s ‘love it or hate it’ looks. Pinarello says the swooping & asymmetric styling creates a gravel bike that is extra forgiving over tough terrain, while not sacrificing aerodynamic performance. The Pinarello Grevil the only Campagnolo Ekar bike out of the bunch to opt for 650b wheels, using the new alloy Fulcrum Rapid Red 3 wrapped in 47mm Continental Terra Trail tires.

New Ridley Kanzo Fast with Campagnolo Ekar

Ridley Kanzo Fast x Ekar

The all-new Ridley Kanzo Fast is probably the most sleek new gravel bike you will find with the new Ekar groupset – and the one that was has spent the most time in the wind tunnel. With its one-piece integrated Ridley/Forza gravel bar+stem combo, the single mechanical Campy shift cable & both brake lines stay completely inside, and comes spec’d with Fulcrum Rapid Red 5 alloy wheels.

At 4800€ it falls between GRX mechanical & Di2 pricing for the new Kanzo Fast.

New Specialized S-Works Diverge with Campagnolo Ekar

S-Works Diverge x Ekar

Specialized opts for a premium build for their new top S-Works Diverge with Ekar, fitting a set of the new mid-depth 35/40mm semi-aero Campagnolo Shamal Carbon 700c wheels with their own 38mm Pathfinder Pro semi-slick tires, plus a suite of carbon S-Works finishing kit. It should be the lightest stock build of the new Future Shock 2.0 equipped Diverge.

No official work on S-Works Diverge Ekar pricing yet, but you can be sure it will cost lest than the 10,000€ Red/Eagle AXS build.

Wilier-Triestina Jena with Campagnolo Ekar

2021 Campagnolo Ekar 1x13 gravel bikes, Wilier Jena
Wilier Jena x Ekar

The carbon Wilier Jena isn’t new this season, but the versatile Italian bike seems a good fit for Ekar 1×13, together with a set of alloy or carbon 700c wheels & 40mm Conti Terra Speed tires. A bike that can add racks & fenders, the Wilier is probably better off with a single ring setup which gives it extra tire clearance, giving it the most adventure riding capability of the new Ekar-equipped bikes.

At 4700€ with Miche alloy wheels or 5600€ with Campagnolo Shamal Carbon, Wilier also hits at a price level higher than mechanical GRX, but lower than Shimano Di2 or SRAM AXS.

Update: 3T Strada aero road with Campagnolo Ekar, too!

3T Strada Team Ekar 1×13

It may be a gravel group, but 3T also sees the virtue of giving their 1x Strada road bike a Campagnolo 13-speed setup too! The 6000€ 3T Strada Team Ekar 1×13 matches a 40T chainring to the more tightly-spaced 9-36T cassette. Let Gerard Vroomen himself explain why he had been waiting especially for this group for the Strada road bike…

Add in a set of Shamal Carbon wheels with Pirelli P-Zero Velo 25c tires that measure a real 28.5mm wide on the 21mm internal Campagnolo wheels, and you get a fast-rolling aero road bike with 400% gearing range. Plus, it’s in stock right now!

Mason Cycles is one of the few British bike companies that has Campagnolo Ekar groups already fitted to their bikes. At £3450, the Mason Bokeh Ekar slides right in the middle price-wise of their triple-butted Dedacciai Alloy gravel bikes –  and gives buyers the option to pick from 8 different wheelsets, both 650b & 700c so you get the Campy-equipped setup tailored to your own style of riding.

The Basso Palta is also fitted with Campy Ekar

You’d think that Ekar would be cheaper than SRAM AXS, but when it comes to Specialized, their Diverge Pro Carbon with 1x SRAM Force AXS is $6700, where their Diverge Carbon Pro with 1x Campy Ekar mechanical is a cool $7000.

Specialized gonna Specialize, I guess.

If you’re only taking electronic vs mechanical into consideration, then sure, you have a point. I’ll gladly take more gears with closer ratios and less weight over the cheap child’s toy-like feel of Sram any day. And only $300 difference for the overall cost of a bike? Pffft, easy!

But why have a BCD of 123 on the cranks?

Campy has done their own proprietary BCD since the very beginning. How is this not common knowledge at this point?
