Using the same patent-pending Drop-Stop design that Wolf Tooth used to cut their teeth in the chainring market, Cannondale Direct Mount rings are machined from 7075 aluminum and will be offered in 30, 32, and 34t rings. Weights are a claimed 64, 68, and 72g respectively, with all rings offered in black only. Sold for $78.00 each, the rings will qualify for free shipping since they are over the $50 minimum. The 32 and 34t rings are shipping now, with the 30t shipping next week.
No, the WTC front derailleur mount cover won’t open bottles, but that’s what pedals are for – right? What they will do is provide a clean appearance for the unused direct mount front derailleur tab without adding much weight. Available in 4 designs, the covers weigh 7g including the aluminum bolt and sell for $15.95.
WTC has been making aluminum 1x chainring bolts for a while, but we just got in a set to try. At 7g for a set of four, they are certainly light and since they are designed and manufactured in the USA from 7075-T6 aluminum they should be plenty durable as well. Available in red, blue, green, black, silver, and gun metal, bolts are sold in 4 packs for $19.95 or 5 packs for $24.95.
Often an overlooked part of your bike, the headset top cap or stem cap is responsible for making sure your headset and ultimately your steering is in perfect adjustment. Which is ironic, because when you’re riding if you look down you stare right at it. Not only do the new WTC Ultralight Stem caps look good, they are machined out of 7075 aluminum to ensure the lightest weight and include an aluminum bolt. There are two models – a traditional flat cap, and one with an integrated 5mm spacer. The spacer model makes it so that if you have just a bit of steerer sticking out above the stem, you can finish it off with an ultra clean look instead of slapping another spacer on top.
You wouldn’t normally think of your head set cap as a place to save weight (at least I wouldn’t), but considering the aluminum compression bolt alone is 6g lighter than a comparable steel bolt – gram counters rejoice. Since the compression bolt is only for adjustment and doesn’t actually hold your bike together, switching to an aluminum bolt shouldn’t be an issue. It will keep things from getting rusty to boot.
