Since the early days of Road Plus, WTB has been on board. But even as 650b grew in popularity for mixed surface riding, a number of riders still prefer the bigger 700c wheels and tires. As such, every time WTB would launch a new Road Plus Tire, apparently they were bombarded with requests for the same tread pattern but in 700c. Requests like that have given rise to the latest WTB addition – the Venture 40 & 50.
What sets the Venture apart is a fairly smooth center track for smooth rolling on hard surfaces, but with plenty of siping for wet control. From there, the tread gets slightly deeper in the transition zone, until meeting large cornering lugs for traction when you need it most.
The tread should work well to provide a tire that is capable on most surfaces, without giving up much in performance one way or the other.
Offered in black or tan sidewalls, all of the Venture series tires use their TCS tubeless ready system for easy tubeless set up with sealant and Dual DNA rubber compound. Weights are claimed at 472g for the tan wall and 501g for the black 700c x 40mm tires, and TBD for the 50mm treads. For some reason, the 700c tires have a lower price than the 650b variant at $59.95 vs $70.95. The 700c versions are currently shipping in Europe, and will be available in the U.S. soon.
