Sometimes, some of the coolest new products are the results of experimentation. That seems to be the case with the new Morse Cage Gold from Wolf Tooth Components. The company says that they were just experimenting with titanium nitride coating which is often used to increase the durability of drill bits. It also imparts a sweet gold finish that is highly durable, resulting in a unique limited edition bottle cage.
As a refresher, the WTC Morse cage is a collaboration with King Cage. Wolf Tooth Components creates and provides the base plate with 32mm of vertical adjustment, and King Cage welds up a beautiful bottle cage.
Those cages are available in either titanium or stainless steel construction, just like before. Only now, you’ll also have the choice of the new gold TiN coating. Pricing is set at $44.95 for the SS cage and $89.95 for the titanium cage. Both are available now and have claimed weights of 58g for SS and 32g for Ti.
In other WTC news, they now offer 8-bolt SRAM Direct Mount chainrings for all SRAM cranks that use the new interface.
The new rings continue to use WTC’s patented Drop-Stop wide/narrow tooth profile with a 6mm offset for a 45mm chainline. This particular chainring uses their Drop-Stop FT profile for SRAM Flattop chain compatibility as well as 9, 10, 11, and 12 speed Eagle compatibility.
Currently available in 40 and 44t, WTC says more size are in the works. Each ring is made from 7075-T6 aluminum in the USA, and weight is claimed at 105g for the 40t. Retail price depends on the size with the 40t priced at $84.95 and the 44t at $89.95.
