Just last week, we reported on YT Industries’ announcement of entering into legal restructuring proceedings to secure the future of the company. In that announcement, the brand also mentioned that “exciting new products are planned to be launched in the coming months.” Well, it would appear that the first of those exciting new products is the all-new Decoy eMTB.

According to YT, the new Decoy is “here to hunt.” From the looks of it, the latest version is hunting high speeds, rough terrain, and steep descents. With 170/180 mm of travel and modern, gravity-focused geometry, this bike’s downhill focus is immediately apparent. Add the Bosch Performance Line CX motor and the sizeable 800 Wh battery, and you’ve got the power to rip laps all day.

All-New YT Decoy

YT started making Decoy models back in 2019. The original Decoy had 165mm of rear wheel travel, mixed wheel sizes, and a decidedly downhill-oriented geometry — for the time. Over the years, YT made several other versions, including the more trail-oriented Decoy 29, and more recently, the mid-power Decoy SN models. I’ve ridden a few of them over the years, including the Decoy MX and the Decoy 29, and they were really fun bikes. That said, the Decoy MX was beginning to show its age, mostly due to its somewhat dated geometry, but also its motor system.

Now, the all-new Decoy brings YT up to date, with a touch more travel, modern geometry, the Bosch motor system, a larger battery, and fresh builds to choose from.

The new Decoy shares a similar look to its predecessor but has slightly more travel, updated geometry, and houses a Bosch CX motor and 800 Wh battery.

New Frame

According to YT, the new Decoy features a “completely redesigned chassis”. While the overall silhouette looks a lot like the previous version, the full carbon frames have been redesigned with updated geometry, and to package the Bosch motor and battery. YT is still using its tried and tested V4L suspension layout, with the new Decoy getting 170 mm of rear travel that’s intended to be paired with a 180 mm fork. It rolls on mixed wheels to promote a confident front end while keeping the rear end maneuverable and reducing the chances of tire-rub in the steeps.

The frame has all of the modern touches, including standard internal cable routing, molded chainstay protection, a robust skid plate to protect the motor, and a custom MRP SL chainguide. It also appears to be ready to fit a small water bottle, most likely a custom Fidlock affair like the previous version. That said, it doesn’t look like there is enough space to fit the Bosch PowerMore range extender in there, unfortunately.

Updated Geometry, More Sizes

Geometry-wise, YT has brought the new Decoy into the modern era, with a slack, 63.5-degree head tube angle (low setting), longer reach figures, higher-stack, and lower BB heights to enhance confidence and composure on the descents. A geometry-adjusting flip chip lets users choose between regular and low settings, changing the head tube angle by +/-0.5 degrees along with +/- 8mm of BB height to suit your terrain. Since this bike is also intended to go up the hill, YT gave it a properly steep 78-degree effective seat tube angle.

The new Decoy will be coming in five frame sizes, claimed to fit riders between 5’1” and 6’7” (154 cm-202 cm). This should help more riders get a more proportional fit. Check out the geometry chart below for a deeper dive.

Bosch Motor, Big Battery

While the previous Decoy MX relied on the Shimano EP8 motor, the new Decoy comes with the highly regarded Bosch Performance Line CX. With a refined and highly tunable power delivery, the Bosch CX motor supports your pedaling efforts with up to 100 Nm of hill-flattening torque and up to 750 W of peak power. That’s controlled by a wireless handlebar remote and the fancy new Kiox 400C top tube integrated display. Supplying the power is an 800 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, ensuring you have plenty of juice to knock out lap after lap.

YT Decoy Builds and Pricing

The new Decoy is available in four different Core builds, with prices starting at 5,999 € for the Core 1 and topping out at 8,999 € for the very nicely equipped Core 4. As is typical of YT bikes, all of the builds look really solid at their respective price points.

Loved my Decoy. It’s Shimano I worry about. There appears to be a mass exodus from their motors.

Shimano have a problem, they treat their motors like they treat their brakes and derailleurs, which is to say when something breaks or wears out they take the atitude that you should just buy another one. It’s made a cottage industry for stripping bearings, controls boards etc out of Steps units for spares and servicing. It’s also made a lot of unhappy customers with 2 or 3 year old paperweights.
If you get certified Bosch will sell your shop any component from it’s bike motors (except battery internals for safety reasons) and supplies spares for 6 years after a motor stops sale. It’s not s surprise to see Shiamno Steps receding.
