French cycling brand, Zéfal, has added Gizmo Mounts to its line of cycling accessories. These rubberized mounting tabs can be used to mount a bottle cage or a carrier bracket, in the absence of traditional bosses, to the top tube, downtube, fork leg, handlebar, seat tube; anywhere your bike where there is unused real-estate. Thus, the Zéfal Gizmo offers opportunity to convert almost any bike to a cargo-carrying vehicle for bikepacking.
Zéfal Universal Fork Holder & Waterproof Pack
The Zéfal Gizmos are sold separately at €9.95 per pair for use as a Universal Bottle Cage Mount (cage sold separately), but also in a bundle as the Z Adventure Fork Pack. The bundle retails at €64.95 and includes three Gizmos, a reinforced polypropylene holder and a 6L Waterproof Pack that can be affixed to any fork leg between 16mm and 36mm in diameter with the use of soft hook-and-loop straps that are cinched down with cable ties. The assembly is said to securely support a maximum load of 2.5 kg without risk of damaging the fork paint. Four fixing holes allow for some height adjustment.
The holder could be a useful addition to any bikepacking setup wherein the bike’s fork lacks the threaded studs required for bolt-on cages. That said, this is a Universal Fork Holder, so it can also bolt straight onto a fork should you ever upgrade to one that does have bosses; in that case, the Gizmos could then be re-appropriated to some other location to carry an extra water bottle, perhaps.
The 6L Waterproof Pack is of a roll-top design with an added clip for security. It is constructed from a 420D TPU Polyester with welded seams and features a couple of reflective strips to help improve the rider’s visibility at night. Claimed weight for the Universal Fork Holder is 346g, while the bag weighs a claimed 204g.
