The demand for an easy to use storage method is there, as we’ve seen with Urbancyclo’s recent Kickstarter. Zenstem plans to create a sturdy CNC’d stem to aid commuters and regular riders with easy to use bike storage. They’ve brought their fresh take on an adjustable stem to the crowdfunding website…

The stem utilizes a quick release for tool-free adjustments, while the internal mechanism provides additional protection from unexpected movement. The bars are twisted by pulling up on the body of the stem and moving to the desired angle (in 30° increments). After being released, the stem pulls together and can be locked in position again with the quick release.

The stem is being offered through Kickstarter, where backers can potentially receive a Zenstem starting at $75. The scheduled ship date, should the target be met, is December of this year, and the stem is said to weigh under a pound.

Rotate the handlebar, and take the front wheel off? No?

Wow. QR stem is a safety hazard and generally just complete crap. Why is there so much garbage that comes out of Kickstarter?

Loosen your two stem bolts and rotate 90 degrees for a quick and safe storage solution.

If you really want a laugh, take five minutes and randomly peruse kickstarter projects. The miracle earpiece that communicates your prayers to god, is my favorite so far.

Surely someone has a more dangerous idea than this. Folding bicycle wheel anyone?

So I don’t hardly ever…well ever…look at what Kickstarter has to offer. Does BR post EVERY Kickstarter project that has to do with bikes, or are these the BEST ideas to come out of KS?!

Will cable length have to be adjusted for this to function?

Wow such bitter people! Can’t just read an article and get to the end without negative comments on anything anymore…I have purchased products on KS before and I’ve seen items from there hit regular stores now. Some well known brands use it. There are stems like this exist on folding bikes. And no I dont work for KS.

Does this nice thing pass the ISO norm and crash tests…?

As stated before, cable length will have to addressed ( Lengthened), as well as hydraulic hose length. You can see in the picture that the front brake hose is very kinked position. Also the rear hose is stretched around the head tube. Sorry bad idea, and could cause more dangerous functional problems to solve a relative small problem of storage. Just drop out the front wheel and turn the bars, problem solved, at no extra cost. Have they also considered all the different stem options? length? rake? steerer tube size? bar size?

Allan: using a quick release and then an easy rotation is too simple. Wait. Maybe it’s too far to reach the axle quick release, so we need it relocated to the stem. Maybe it’s. . .ah f@#$ it. JUST GIMME MONEY I MADE A KICKSTARTER
