Not a whole lot to add to the initial report, but BikeBiz is reporting that Race Face staffers have confirmed that business is in the process of being liquidated. Most of the 30 Canadian staff will be laid off today with just a few core folks sticking around to oversee the liquidation. Besides making killer components (we’ve got a set of their square-taper cranks and BB that have been bombproof for more than 10 years!), staffers said the order book was full, making the sudden end even more unexpected. If this is a build up to an April Fool’s joke, it’s about as well thought out as Chrysler’s PR WTF tweet.
In other news, Rocky Mountain Bicycles has issued a recall for about (aboot?) 325 cyclocross bikes because the steerer tube could fail. According to the CPSC, the company has received four reports of injuries related to the recall. The bikes affected are:
- Solo CX 2008 Gun metal gray
- Solo CX 2009 White
- Solo CX 2010 White
- Solo CXD 2008 Gun metal gray
- Solo CXD 2009 Titanium silver
- Solo CXR 2009 Black
- Metropolis SEA 2010 Gray
They were sold between June 2007 and November 2010. If you’ve got one, stop riding it immediately and contact Procycle (aka Rocky Mountain Bicycles) at (855) 880-9062 with your serial number to see if you get a shiny new fork for free.
