Between grease, chain lube, road grime, mud, and spilled energy drinks, cycling can be a messy sport. Thanks to a growing amount of cleaning wipes though, cleaning up is getting easier. Products like Grease Monkey wipes can prove invaluable especially when on the go. Packaged into an easily transportable container, one step cleaning is always within your reach. We’ve touched on the power of the as seen on TV Grease Monkey Wipes before, but the company is back with an even better version of their made-in-the-US cleaning solution.
The biggest change to the Grease Monkey wipes is the new larger size. Originally cut to 8×7″, the new wipes are 70% larger at 8×12″. that means you can use fewer wipes and also get a better grip on the wipe when cleaning larger surfaces. Also, since our last review the pattern on the wipes have changed making them even more durable than before. Their strongest wipe to date, the cloth is considerably more tear resistant than even the strongest paper towels letting you clean more without it falling to pieces in your hands.
While the container is perfect for stashing in the car or your bike bag when you travel, the wipes can be used to clean up just about anything around the house or shop including yourself. Using the same wipe I started by cleaning off a carbon bike frame, and ended up looking for other things to clean because the wipe was still good. The floor under my repair stand was looking pretty rough with grease stains, and the Grease Monkey wipe left the laminate looking like new. The powerful citrus cleaner is even capable of easily cutting through that tough residue left behind by energy drinks on your down tube. As Marc found, the wipes will leave your hands feeling dry, but that’s a small trade off for impressive cleaning power without the use of harsh chemicals.
Sold in a 25 count canister or individual wipes, prices start at $5.99 for a 25 count, or $2.49 for a 3 count individual pack. According to the pricing information provided by Grease Monkey, that makes them not only the one of the largest, but the cheapest cleaning wipe on the market at $0.24 a piece. The individual wipes are still sized at 8×7″, but will soon be transitioning to a larger 8×10″ wipe as well at the existing price point.
