IRC’s new Aspite clincher endurance racing road tires build in a little more protection than the Formula Pro models we’ve tested and liked. Their target was the Continental GP4000, but they wanted to come in more affordable.

The Aspite will come in two versions, one with “pebbles” of grip on the sides that get more dense as they roll off the edge, and the Wet version uses slanted lines to move the water out from under the tire.

A small flare creates a smoother transition from the tire to the rim, eliminating the usual inward curve that leaves the top of the rim exposed to oncoming air. They’re claiming a 4% drag reduction compared the GP4000.

Available in 700×24 (205g) and 700×26 (245g).

The Formula Pro Tubeless gets a new 25c width on the RBCC version…

…and this prototype 28c size was spotted in Stan’s booth.

The Serac CX Mud is a new version of their cyclocross tires for muckier conditions. It’s tubeless like the original, but with a more open, paddle like tread shape. Weight is 380g.

The mountain bike tires get 27.5″ options for most all of their treads.

I love the Formula Pro tubeless with X-Guard. It would be great if IRC made 25C or 28C versions of this tyre.

Moar volume please! Fatter is better for endurance. Though I understand the challenge with hi-volume tubeless road.

IRC is still in business?

I know it may be a good tire, but the hot patch on the Formula makes it look like something you’d find at the bike dept. of WalMart.

I checked ASPITE at their booth yesterday. It must be a good match with Continental Road GP 4000 tires. I am still GP believer but I should try IRC someday. IRC get more aggressive now. Their Cyclocross tubeless looked one of the best I ever seen. All made in Japan. I guess IRC is doing hard for Olympic 2020 in Tokyo.

Doug: Thanks, I did. It doesn’t mention the X-guard version that is pictured in the 23C size. I need the extra puncture protection on my local roads.

If it helps, the 25C Formula Pro has been available on alexcycle since April this year, but no X-guard version in that size.

I’ve been riding Aspite 24C tyres for couple months now and they are great. Nice grip, tough casing and that tiny extra 1C worth of width really do make a difference. Personally, I like these better than GP4000.

Haven’t tried the WET version yet but through couple rain rides, dry version seemed to have no problem. Totally recommend them.

The Formula RBCC 23c tires on my American Classic Argent wheels measure out to be over 25c. I use them on endurance and centuries – they are fantastic! IRC makes the best road tubeless tires hands down.

The IRC Roadlite 25c tires measure nearly 30mm wide on my HED Aredenne + wheels, just FYI.

I need to try the new Formula Pro Tubeless RBCC 25c tires.
For those of you that can’t find them, order online at Alex’s Cycle in Japan. I’ve ordered from them many times – fast service, no problems.
