The Spanish gearbox bike specialist at AXXIS have branched out from their previous hardtail-only offerings with a new full-suspension bike aimed at the all-mountain and trail riding markets. The new AM275 builds a 6061 aluminum frame around a Pinion gear box for an almost indestructible, well-balanced trail riding platform.

Axxis claims the bike does well getting you to the top of climbs and then is even more happy to bomb down the technical descents on the other side. The all-mountain AM275 is designed to use the 12 speed Pinion, but an 18 speed version of the gearbox is also available.

As can be guessed from its name, the bike gets built up with 27.5″ wheels. The triple-butted alloy frame gets a generous sloping toptube for plenty of standover, and with the gearbox centered low in the frame should be easy to kick around.

It uses a tapered headutbe with a slack 68° head angle, and a 12×142 thru-axle out back connected with 433mm chainstays. The plush 140mm travel faux-bar single pivot frame is designed to be paired with a 150mm fork like the Pike pictured, and gives it the capability for aggressive trail riding or even a bit of enduro.

But for now the bike is being sold as a frame-only, with the drivetrain kit. 2500€ gets you a frame and a complete Pinion 12 gearbox system, including: the gripshift, cabling, the crankset and chainring, single rear cog, and chain tensioner, all of which come pre-assembled and ready to use once the rest of the bike is built-up.

I can’t wait to see more production of bikes like this. Chain driven derailleurs are the next “old” technology to be replaced

Great concept, what does the frame weigh?
The bike in picture has Conti raceking on the front, on an AM bike?
Somebody gonna get hurt real bad!

Another pinion single pivot bike: stay away!!!!!!!! With a 2Kg penalty for the drive train at least try to use a Horst or something a tiny bit more efficient!

Would love to see a gearbox AM bike in the mainstream, but done by a brand who knows what they are doing with frame / geometry design.

It is to accomodate suspension induced chain stretch, which can only be completely mitigated by having the front pivot on the same axis as the front sprocket’s center line.

Chain growth can also be overcome with a linkage that has a floating BB, such as the Mongoose Freedrive.

What kind of rear hub gets used with a Pinion drive?

Takes any hub, used a Chris King on mine, next one will get an Acros.

Yah… a step in the right direction.

Please keep making more transmission gear box bikes. I will buy all of them!

Eventually this will rival the weight of rear derailleurs we have now and be soo much better.

68º isn’t slack, it’s steep. 63º would be a slack bike, and closer to 70 would be a road bike.
