Would your kids wear a LEGO hair bicycle helmet?

Danish design firm MOEF thought if a bicycle helmet looked more appealing to kids, they’d be more likely to wear one. Because, you know, statistics like every five hours a kid sustains a head injury means zero to the youth. But looking cool? That might strike a chord.

Technically fashioned after a Playmobil hair piece, the resemblance to LEGO hair pieces is similar enough to reach any kid regardless of their building block preference. The shape was created by 3D scanning the toy hair, then 3D printing an oversized replica. Video below…

It’s a one-off prototype for now but is being used to test whether children will voluntarily reach for a helmet if they like the design.

Does it have MIPS and how many seconds will it save my child in a 40km time trial?

If they make it in orange, it’ll be perfect for my Trump Halloween costume.

Not a single image of somebody wearing it. Fail.

I don’t think it’s wearable. I think it would cover your ears.

Get prominent characters in kids TV programs & video games to wear helmets then every kid will wear them. making a helmet look like a mop is just ridiculous. I can’t believe this got past the joke at the pub stage.

Holy crap, I’d wear that helmet!

The helmet actually looks like it would increase the risk of serious neck injury in case of a crash, with its many ridges prone to getting stuck instead of sliding. Sort of ANTI-MIPS, if you will. Form over function.

No more than vents would I don’t think. But both of us are taking wild assumptions in the dark, which isn’t the greatest evaluation.

The look is off a bit. Nothing a little hairspray or mousse won’t cure!!!!

After all that work and video production and no image of it on an actual head. Isn’t it completely obvious that people want to see what it looks like on a person? Maybe it’s too fragile in this prototype stage.

Nice as a gimmick, totally unusable, unless they add some vents (zero vents) and remove those ridges. But Since I’m sure it’s not an actual helmet and they have no plans to actually make it, it’s cool.

There are a LOT of versions of Lego hair nowadays (anyone who watches Ninjago or who has bought a mystery mini figure would see this). Looks like it’s specifically modeled after this ‘doo’: http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/m/mbHcSWxjW1umMoG27lmanjQ/s-l225.jpg
