Strava finds cyclists fav food: bananas & fav drink: beer – Strava recently dug through a week’s worth of activity titles to see if they could parse out what seven days of an athlete’s diet might look like. Unsurprisingly to me (at least naming activities post-ride), Beer is the most popular item of food or drink on Strava with a whopping 14,972 beers drunk by athletes over the course of one week. Bananas come in next, then coffee. Would you believe cyclists are 7x more likely to mention coffee in their activity title than runners? Strava.com

Where to Ride

  • Need more gravel? Try the new Jeroboam 300, now with 40% Italian gravel – After its inaugural running, riders said they wanted even more of that iconic white Italian gravel. So the Jeroboam organizers said sure, and the redesigned course now has 120km of gnarly gravel riding out of the total 300km. If you aren’t up for the full bottle, there are still the 150km Magnum and 75km Standard, even the short 37.5km route they call a tester over the Sept 22-23 weekend. Jeroboam.bike

  • Trek makes massive investment in American youth – Trek and its American retailers will increase their investment in the fastest growing youth sport in the US – mountain biking – to establish NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) leagues nationwide. Additional funding will accelerate NICA’s expansion efforts by supporting existing leagues, establishing a solid financial foundation for new leagues, and support the development of league coaches and directors. With an annual growth rate of over 30%, today, over 15,000 middle and high school student-athletes compete in 22 NICA leagues in 21 states. The Trek commitment will see more funds going to existing leagues, plus 2-4x more for new leagues in their first years. NationalMTB.org
