INTERBIKE 2009 – Lake Cycling introduced three new models, one each for road cycling, mountain biking and fitness.
Shown above is the redesigned MX235 mountain bike shoe.  For 2010, it does away with the top ratchet strap and goes with three velcro straps. It’s available in white (w/ graphics) or black/red (shown after the break). The white version uses a patent leather upper and the black model gets full-grain leather. They have a real rubber tread with “mud studs” and a 100% carbon fiber sole. They’re offered in both men’s and women’s sizes.
Road and fitness models after the break…
The Black/Red MX235 uses the same silver mesh panels as the white one, with matching silver accents.
Lake’s top of the line road shoe, the CX401, sees no changes for 2010, but just below it comes a new model: The CX236. Actually, the CX330 is the next model down, but the CX236 is designed to offer virtually all of the performance at a lower price point. It gets the rear-mounted BOA closure system, a full-grain leather upper and full carbon sole.
Additionally, the shoe can be ordered with either standard 3-bolt road cleat drillings or drilled for Speedplay cleats with no adapters necessary (yay!). It’s MSRP is $210, about $80 less than the current CX330. It’s available in Black and White.
The new I/O (Indoor/Outdoor) 1 fitness shoe uses their Tektile synthetic upper with mesh inserts, a lightweight Vibram sole with “Hi-Rev” toe and heel lift. It’s designed for both indoor and outdoor exercise, and it has SPD-compatible 2-bolt cleat mounts with a cover plate if you aren’t going to use it. The big news for this model is that it has done away with the BOA closure for three simple velcro straps, thus dropping from about $150 to $79.99.
If anyone else is thinking this velcro model is a little too “Jazzercise” you can still get their ’09 version with the BOA on Lake’s website, on sale for $99.99…and it’s pretty tight looking. Or, there’s an I/O 2 with laces that’s only $45 (on sale).
