I posted a couple of items’ weights the other day, but here’s the whole enchilada. All 2011 XTR components weighed individually. I haven’t added it all up, but Shimano’s folk said the entire group comes in about 70g heavier than SRAM’s XX, mainly due to the cassette (above). This weight compares just parts available from both groups, but XTR also has pedal and wheels in the group, and when you add all of those up, the new group is substantially lighter than the prior 9700 series XTR.
Shown above is the 11-34 cassette at 254g. There’s also an 11-36, and the unofficial word is that there’ll be a 32T version offered in the future. Without further ado, jump on past the break to see the real weights of every piece…
Two wheelsets are available, Race and Trail, which follows in the motif of the new XTR. A full breakdown of the differences in the parts and technologies will be done separately. Shown above is the Race Front with 15mm thru axle: 690g.
XTR Race Rear Wheel w/ standard 9mm QR: 817g
XTR Trail Front 15mm thru axle: 771g
XTR Trail Rear Wheel w/ standard 9mm QR: 917g
Rear QR skewer: 65g
XTR Trail Brake (rear): 253g (front Trail brake was not available for weighing individually)
XTR Race Front Brake: 220g (they’re actually a few grams lighter if you remove the spacer)
XTR Race Rear Brake: 237g
160mm Ice Tech rotor: 106g
Resin Trail Brake Pad w/ cooling fins: 11g each
Sintered Metallic Brake Pad w/ cooling fins: 16g each
Sintered Metallic Race Brake Pad: 5g each
XTR Rear Shifter Pod w/ cable: 117g
XTR Front Shifter w/ cable: 107g
XTR Rear Derailleur: 174g
XTR Front Direct Mount Derailleur: 132g (there are an abundance of front d’s in the new XTR group, this is the only one they had sitting around to weigh)
XTR Race Double 42/30T Crankset: 634g (there’s also a 40/28 and 38/26 available, and the triple, but those weren’t available to weigh. We have the triple and the bottom bracket on our bike now, but it’ll be a bit before we have the chance to pull them off and weigh them separately. A 44T big ring for the doubles will be available at the pro level, but otherwise they keep a 12T difference between the two rings)
XTR Race Pedal: 153g each (306g/pair, with a bit of dusty dirt)
XTR Trail Pedal: 188g each (376g/pair, also with a bity of dusty dirt)
