Registration for the 2012 National Bike Summit is now open. Scheduled for March 20-22, it’s strategically timed just eight days before the current Federal transportation funding program is set to expire. That means a big showing at the summit can help ensure funding for bike lanes, bicycle paths and sidewalks is kept in place.
There’s a vote today in the Senate to remove bicycle funding and redirect it to bridge maintenance. It’s just the latest attack on the transportation enhancement funds earmarked for bicycles, and it seems they keep on coming. The League of American Bicyclists continues to fight the good fight, but they need your support…whether that’s letter/email writing, phone calls or heading to the summit to show support (or all three!).
