When it comes to floor pumps, the Silca Superpista ultimate is a work of art. An artwork that will keep your tires inflated for generations to come using both old school and new school manufacturing. So just how do you make the $450 Silca Ultimate Floor pump even better? Add a bottle opener, of course…

For those without SPD pedals close at hand, or who simply prefer a clean, sturdy bottle opener that is always where you left it, the newest Silca accessory comes via Wisecracker. We’ve had some experience with the Wisecracker previously as it was originally designed to fit 1 1/8″ steerer tubes as a spacer so your bike was never without bottle opening capabilities.

Now the company has collaborated with Silca to create a custom, Tungsten Ceramic coated 7075 aluminum Wisecracker designed specifically for the Ultimate pump top cap. Made in the USA, the Wisecracker will set you back $30, unless you buy $250 worth of goods from Silca today – then it’s free as part of their Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal.

Who keeps their floor pump next to their fridge? And why does the beer bottle have a standard cap on top of its flip cap?
Maybe I just don’t get what a $450 pump is all about…

How proletarian. I only drink beverages sealed by real cork.

@ Francois: who doesn’t drink beer while wrenching on bikes away from the fridge?

I was optimistic when Josh Poertner purchased Silca. I see now that he’s just a jerk.

@Francois, the standard cap keeps the beer fresh until it is opened. The flip cap allows you to save some for later.

If I thought “a fool and his money” applied to the original $450 Silca pump owners, this $30 bottle opener removed all doubt.

If you don’t have a bottle opener in your shop and can’t figure out how to open a bottle using a screwdriver or wrench then you probably shouldn’t have access to the contents of a beer bottle.

I don’t really get the Silca pump, it is far to ostentatious for me. But as I see it the appeal is in the purity of purpose, you have a well made tool to do one thing very well. Adding an aftermarket bottle opener seems to dilute that. But hey, I’m clearly not the target market for either of these products.

Things that also can open a beer:

Almost anything.

I own a few bottle openers, but I invariably reach for my pocketknife, which I always have I my pocket and has the advantage of being able to cut stuff.

Our game is to see what we can open a bottle with, so far there hasn’t been many thing that can’t. I met Darren Berrecloth at a Specialized event a few years ago and he showed me how to use the corner of your phone, game on since.

Sweet, it bangs your knuckles twice.. once on the bottom stroke of the pump, and again when you try to open a beer.

Sounds about right for anyone who’d buy that pump though.

And then you ding the cylinder of the $450 pump

CowtownC nailed it. I would hope any Silca subscriber would also feel the, ‘best tool for the job’ mentality is something that should be upheld, which this doesn’t. A Silca pump outside of that context is just bike nerd jewelry/plumage.

Nice opener. I have a lezyne pump that sucks (deleted) but I put a hirame head on it. I’d love to get this pump from my relative instead of random junk from Bass Pro shops, ll bean or job lot.

Plus, anyone can open bottles with any object. I can comb my hair with an apple. What’s the point of talking yang on these articles.

@BaldBen: Who doesn’t have at least 5 tools around their work area that can be easily used to open a beer bottle?

What the bleep?!

Why does the cycling industry have this fascinating with incorporating bottle openers on everything? Why don’t we see the auto industry making a bottle opener integrated into the car’s dashboard?

@PsiSquared: who doesn’t need at least 6?
