If you’re of the multisport or general fitness persuasion and aren’t looking for a dedicated cycling computer like their GPS-equipped M450 or top of the line V650, then two of their wrist wearable updates might pique your interest.
The M400 is their second from the top GPS sports watch, under the V800. With its latest update adding Training Load and Recovery Status markers, it comes even closer to giving you all the same data as the higher end watch. The two new data sets show the relative intensity of a workout and the anticipated recovery time needed before you’re ready to go at it again…
The Training Load shows up in Polar Flow (app or desktop) as a classification of Undertrained, Balanced, Strained, or Very Strained. The Recovery Status then suggests the amount of time you should rest before the next workout. It pairs with Bluetooth to your smartphone and HR strap, but you’ll have to get the V800 to have it link up with Bluetooth power meters and speed/cadence sensors.
The Polar A360 activity tracker is their first device to move heart rate monitoring to the wrist instead of a chest strap, putting everything you need for basic movement and fitness recording in one small, full color, touchscreen device. It was announced in October, and just started shipping in time for the holidays.
