OK, I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a sucker for flashy infographics. But this just struck me as cool. The Tour Down Under is a logistical nightmare for most of the Europe-based pro teams, who end up wrenching out of the back of rented box vans and in the hotel ballroom tour village. But it is a great chance to escape some of the cold winter of the northern hemisphere for sunny skies. To get there, 6 pro teams that are sponsored by Scicon (plus 3 more that buy them on their own) put 3 bikes each for 7 riders in their Aerocomfort bags and toss them on the planes.

That’s not to say that the race isn’t exceptionally well-organized. It’s just tough on logistics away from the teams’ service course setups, with multiple team vans and other support systems in place. Check out our interview with Steven from Lotto for some pro team perspective, plus more behind the scenes features to come. Hop past the break for more of the travel story by the numbers…

Scicon does bags well, but they also break it down for the reader too, as the pro’s bikes travel thousands of miles around the globe to race several hundred around Adelaide. Check out their own story with insights from the teams at: News.SciconBags.com
